When someone in your family requires more help, the questions can come fast. Who’s going to be there when you can’t? Is there somewhere they can go to feel like themselves again, instead of slipping into isolation? And underneath all of it, how are you supposed to hold this all together?
The honest answer is that most families need two kinds of support at once: one for the person who is struggling, and one for the person carrying the load. Recognizing that these are two different needs is often what changes everything.
Patricia King has spent more than twenty years walking alongside older adults and their families in the Sea to Sky Corridor. Out of that work grew two services that fit together: For the One You Love, hands-on care for your family member, and Present Moment Consulting, dedicated support for you.
For many families, both matter.
For the One You Love: Showing Up at the Door
For the One You Love has been a home care and companion agency in the Sea to Sky Corridor since 1999. The person at the centre is your loved one, possibly someone living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or any of the age-related conditions that can make ordinary days harder than they used to be.
The support is practical and in-person: help around the house, personal care, rides to appointments, grocery runs, recovery after surgery, and real companionship. Patricia also offers care through the 3 Dimension Club, a strengths-based activity program that keeps people moving, thinking, and connected to others while giving the family caregiver a genuine break twice a week.
Beyond day-to-day care, the team helps families find their footing in a system that can feel impossible to navigate: what the options are, what the next decision looks like, and how to make it with confidence. That guidance extends all the way through end-of-life, including doula care.
This is the kind of support you can rely on. A familiar face at the door. A program your loved one counts on each week. A team that knows their name, their history, and what makes them light up.
Present Moment Consulting: For the One Doing the Caring
There’s also a side of caregiving that no one can prepare you for, the exhaustion, the worry that doesn’t switch off, the slow grief of watching someone change, and the loneliness of a role most people around you don’t fully understand.
Present Moment Consulting exists for that. Through one-on-one and group sessions, Patricia helps family caregivers stay ahead of burnout and hold onto the parts of themselves that caregiving can quietly wear down. The approach draws on mindfulness, energy work, nutrition, and plain, compassionate conversation, but it stays grounded in the practical. You come away with strategies you can actually use.
It isn’t home care. No one arrives to take over the tasks. It’s the one space where you are the person being looked after, your wellbeing, your limits, and your capacity to keep going.
Why It Works Better Together
Caregiving pulls in two directions. Your loved one needs care, engagement, and connection. You need rest, guidance, and someone in your corner. When both are covered, the pressure eases and families feel less overwhelmed, the person receiving care does better, and the relationship has room to breathe instead of buckling under the strain.
Patricia understands both sides because she has lived both, professionally and personally, for over twenty years. Whether your family is just beginning to ask these questions, or already deep in it, there’s a place for you here.
Still Working Out What You Need?
That’s normal; most people aren’t sure at first. A simple way to think about it:
- If your loved one needs in-person care, company, or engagement, For the One You Love is your starting point.
- If you’re the one running on empty and need support for yourself, Present Moment Consulting is here for you.
And if the answer is both, which is common and completely okay, you don’t have to sort it out on your own.
